ABOUT

A.I.A.C.E (Associazione Italiana Amici del Cinema d’Essai – Italian Association of Arthouse Cinema) was founded in Italy in 1962, inspired by the French Cinémas d’Art et d’Essai with the institutional objectives to promote and spread quality cinema, support  Arthouse Cinema programming, permanent training of the audience through the organization of film events, courses, festival, meetings with the authors, cooperation with schools of all levels for visual education addressed to teachers and students.

In 2020 Alessia Gasparella, with her vast experience in festivals all around Europe and her intention to share her knowledge and build something to take her back to her roots, brings together a varied group of young cinema lovers and starts A.I.A.C.E Valle d’Aosta. The founding members, all with diverse origins and expertises, join forces to give a cosmopolitan and contemporary dimension to their events, through several partnerships and collaborations with festivals and associations from all over the world.

Born in 1987, from Aosta Valley; after graduating from DAMS at Turin, I left for Paris to test my French. After a couple of years spent working in any position I could find on little movie sets, I rediscovered myself as a general director. The sets’ size is slowly and gradually growing, as I keep on working with different movie festivals, in Italy and abroad. During my free time I’m dedicated to my passions: all types of comic books and sharks documentaries!

Graphic designer with no visible dislike for Comic Sans. My journey starts at IAAD, this experience enabled me to merge the basics of graphic design with the conceptual research of good communication. After many working experiences in different agencies of greatest importance in Piedmont, I can now define myself as an art director in advertising and an illustrator in my spare time.

SILVIA GASPARELLA

VICE PRESIDENT

Born in 1989, of sicilian origin, I’m in love with Turin, where I lived for the last 10 years. I have a weird relationship with space-time, that I resolve by spending as long as possible in my favourite dimension: cinema. I love to write, to travel, to cook, to read Dylan Dog and… to plan. Because, paraphrasing Raymond Queneau, those who create following clear rules are more free than those who create in apparent freedom, but enslaved by rules they ignore.

ELENA CIOFALO

SECRETARY AND TREASURER

Born in Aosta Valley, Science Education student and art lover, my contribution to the association is mostly focused on the projects with schools and on the activities aimed at younger people. In my spare time I turn myself into a grammar nazi and I fight the windmills of linguistic evolution.

I attended Communication Science in Turin and then moved to Bologna (with an Erasmus interlude in Krakow), where I specialized in Public and Social Marketing. After finishing my studies, I found myself doing a few graphic and web design jobs in the family run studio and it was love at first sight! I never left. I love art in all of its expressions, passion that brought me to take part in different cinema, theatre and fine arts workshops.

From Central African pediatric hospitals, to the eccentric Izakaya in Tokyo, over the Aosta Valley Alpine pastures; I collect documentary experiences around the world as a freelance filmmaker since 2016, the year of my Master degree at IULM in Milan. Cosmopolitan with a thirst for travel, I love my mountains and I feel extremely lucky for being able to admire them every morning. Professional dreamer since 1990.

Born in 1995, I was born in Aosta and I grew up on movies. My film-education started at DAMS in Turin and continued at IULM in Milan, until it became my daily business: the sphere of casting on the one hand and the production department on the other. I think cinema is a means through which we can explore the world: fiction or documentary, long or short films. What matters is to always be ready to leave, that’s why I always keep my suitcase packed!
